New book & new series

Out today on Amazon,"The Queen's Whimsy". My new book and the start of a possible new series. So check it out, give it an Amazon review and yeah, email me your thoughts.

"The Queen's Whimsy"
Excerpt:
Okay, the first thing you should understand is that I am a freeborn human. Why is this critical? Well, because in the world I inhabit, being human and freeborn is not only unusual, it’s unheard of. You see I live in the realm of the Fae. Not only do I live here, but I’m the official go-to guy for its Queen. That would be Titania, she of Shakespearean renown. I just call her Tricker méprisable in my native tongue. Okay, it’s a bit cheeky, but I occasionally use that name with her to see if I can get a reaction. The Fae have no sense of humor and can be quite nasty when they think they are being mocked or insulted. I’m sure her ire would be epic. Unfortunately, she never rises to the bait. I also feel this is my way of showing her I’m still annoyed over how she secured me. How did she do it? I’ll explain it all in good time.
First, why does a Queen of the Fae need a go-to guy and especially a human one? I mean she rules over a nation of Fae warriors of various sexes and ages. Oh, just a quick digression: the term they prefer is Fae not Fairy. The Fae are touchy about this issue. They are aware that human usage has given the term fairy a rather negative connotation. The Fae, therefore, think that its employment in reference to them is a slur upon their honor. I figured I’d mention this and spare you their wrath. I told you they are a very touchy crowd, right. Trust me I know of what I write. My first few years here in this place were spent in fighting honor duels. It seems the excuse, “I’m sorry I’m new here and didn’t know that was an insult.” has no effect on getting out of such fights. Lucky for me I was trained in hand-to-hand combat, but again, be patience I’ll get to this too.
Now, where was I? Oh yeah ... why does this Queen require my services? Simple. When her will needs to be enforced, she prefers having this human do it. I can still recall her explanation on the very day she gave me my first assignment.

A Max, Brad, and Maisie Mystery #4 is out on Amazon on 10/04/17

Murder in Leathers

A Max, Brad, and Maisie Mystery #4

Max couldn’t be happier when his friend is cast in an off-off-Broadway play entitled, “Bondage and Discipline: The New Spanish Inquisition?” Brad is positive this production will launch his career since its playwright/director, Oliver Leclerc, the theater’s enfant terrible, is known for his controversial plays. As Brad enthusiastically explains to Max and Maisie, “this one is about how society’s criticisms of the leather community’s lifestyle is a modern-day form of the Inquisition.”
Problems emerge when a group of right-wing religious fanatics, enraged by the theme of the play, stage a series of violent protests. When one of the actors is injured due to a questionable accident, Brad suggests to Leclerc that he cast a highly reluctant Max as the replacement for “submissive #2”. Max has his doubts about the role, but the knowledge that David Lancaster, a rising macho, action star, is the lead overcomes his qualms.
Leclerc is famous for his views that actors must live out the roles they play onstage to add realism to their performances. To ensure that this will happen, he announces he’s hired both dominants and submissives from New York City’s leather community to serve as instructors. As he informs his cast, “I will assign each of you a suitable teacher to train you as a dominant or a submissive. If you fail to comply with your instructor’s assignments you will be fired. I will also use my influence to make certain that you never appear upon any stage in this city.” To Max and Maisie’s amusement, Brad has been handed over to a highly aggressive dominatrix.
Tensions arise when some actors resent not only being labeled as a submissive, but also having to undergo real life training in subservience. Soon both boys, along with Maisie, find themselves exploring the world of domination, submission with a touch of murder and bondage on the side.

The Case of the Flickering Star
A Mark Julian Vampire PI Mystery #11 now out on Amazon

The Case of the Flickering Star

A Mark Julian Vampire PI Mystery #11

In the early decades of Hollywood when, movies were still being referred to by some as The Flickers, no star had shone brighter on the silver screen than the luminously ethereal Amber Corrine Terry. In the supernatural world she was known as the Greek muse Thalia. Her romantic movies were always financial blockbusters and many a young man dreamt of making love to the ashen haired, wide-eyed beauty. By the mid 1920’s she was dubbed the Queen of Love. One of her biggest hits was the controversially notorious film, Nights in Babylon. In its cast was a young foreign actor named Marcus Caesarea making his first, and last, foray into films. Daring even by today’s standards, the movie shocked audiences and caused preachers to rail against the degeneracy of movies. Naturally it was also the biggest moneymaker of that decade.

As the twenties came to a close and while still at the very height of her fame, Amber retired from the screen. Many assumed it was the talkies that forced her, like so many other silent film stars, to bow out of acting. Yet others felt there was more behind her retirement. When her silent movies were lost in a studio warehouse fire, all that was left of her artistic contributions were some grainy publicity still photos from a few of her films.

Recently, her great granddaughter has launched her own successful movie career. The very image of her famous ancestor, young Amber is rapidly rising to the heights her namesake once held in Tinsel Town. But now something threatens the young ingénue. A message was sent to her claiming that a pristine and unedited copy of Nights Of Babylon has been discovered. Its finder has threatened Amber that they will show it to the world unless she makes certain payments.

Amber knows that if that film if seen it will prove she has more than a mere resemblance to the original Amber. In desperation, she hires Mark Julian to find the film it for her. For Mark this is more than a job. Back in the day, as a favor to his lover and Amber, he too had appeared in that movie under the name Marcus Caesarea. If that film is publicly seen it will not only be Amber who has some tricky questions to answer concerning uncanny resemblances. He would also prefer that Vinnie and especially Vinnie’s mother and her friend did not view Mark’s rather revealing performance during a certain orgy segment of the film. The hunt is on for Mark but, with Jean-Claude and Jaime visiting Europe to celebrate their cousin Laurent’s crowning, and a deadly killer on the loose, he is forced to seek assistance from a delighted Viola Lupa. Together this odd couple soon discovers that some of the other Greek Muses may not be so eager that the pair succeeds. It’s a madcap adventure as Mark recalls how, during his early days in Hollywood, he was seduced not only by the thrill of acting in a movie, but also by a certain sexy male actor into clearly showing an his family jewels in that film. Will Mark be able to help the Greek muse Thalia keep her secret as well as his own?

One more review coming in...

This one is from

Series Review
This mystery series is fun, quirky, thrilling, and unusual. I enjoyed getting to know Max, Brad, and Maisie and follow them through their adventures. If you like mysteries, you’ll definitely enjoy it too. But if you are looking for competent detectives, these are more the type that stumble onto things than any Sherlock Holmes types. An former burlesque star and two struggling Broadway authors don’t sound like the most capable PIs ever, but that isn’t going to stop them from trying!
Of course, accidentally fraternizing with a serial killer (this happens very early on in the first book, so not a major spoiler) happens to a lot of detectives. Have you seen Dexter? His sister didn’t know what he was, did she? Then again, Dexter was a little better at hiding it. I’d like to say they get to be the best detectives by book three and that no one ends up naked and tied up. But I don’t want to disappoint you 🙂
Regardless of their skill level (this at times reminded me of the Pink Panther series), or their hard to explain state of being (Maisie is a ghost), this is a mystery series you have to give a try. It will be different than what you are used to, and, if you are anything like me, you’ll smile at the early references to Mark Julian and his more supernatural, and far more skilled detective adventures. I really liked the universe sharing for these two series. As both have supernatural elements and happen in the same city, I like it that the author does not pretend the other one doesn’t exist.
In short, interesting twist on the unlikely detective! I love a more stumble-and-fall approach, especially since we can’t all be Miss Marple!

Another review of "Murder in the String of G"

Another review of "Murder in the String of G"
Review
This was a deliciously quirky book, which I enjoyed very much. Max and Brad are hapless actors who get parts in a play at a revamped theatre which retains more of its past than they bargained for.
Way back in the glory days of the theatre, Maisie, an outrageous burlesque star at the peak of her career falls down the stairs and breaks her neck. The official cause of death is a tragic accident, but we know there was a trip wire across the staircase, and Maisie isn’t about to give up the ghost until she find out who did it.
Meeting Maisie certainly shakes things up for Max and Brad, but not as much as Brad’s new girlfriend who’s a real killer.
I have to admit that my favourite character was Maisie. She’s a real ballsy lady who calls a spade a spade and develops an attachment to her boys that extends beyond the theatre. She’s responsible for some classic moments of comedy and drama and is about as well rounded as a ghost can be. I had great fun with her and am interested to see how she develops in later books. I loved her tendency to get up close and personal with Brad. I like a lady with a refined taste in backsides.
Max and Brad are also endearing characters although neither quite achieve the weight Maisie brings to the story. This is Maisie's moment and she makes the most of it.
I have to admit there were some editing issues that put me off a little and might be a problem to some readers. However, the general flow of the story was strong and helped to sweep me past the flaws.
The story was definitely meaty enough to keep me entertained throughout, with side shoots and two main storylines – Maisie’s past and Brad’s future (if he has one). The boys came across as good guys with a strong friendship and a lot of affection for each other which they’re not afraid to show.
Max, Brad and Daisy won’t be winning any international awards but if you’re looking for a good yarn, with a strong story, complex characters, plenty of action and a smidgeon of humour, this is your book.
